Surry Elementary School Backpack Program

Did you know that one in five kids in the U.S. who will eat meals at school during the week are at risk of being without access to affordable, nutritious food on Saturday and Sunday? Studies have shown that hunger in kids greatly affects their grades ans ability to be able to concentrate on getting an education. We look to be proactive about doing something about it.

The Kip Kephart Foundation has been a proud funding and volunteer partner for the Surry Elementary School Backpack Program since 2012.

The program ensures that approximately 125 local Surry County, Virginia children in need are getting the proper amount of food and nutrition through the weekend when they are not in school.

To ensure the kids in the local community have enough to eat over the weekend, our volunteers send them home on Fridays with backpacks full of satisfying and nutritional food.
